Residue
Residue
From the memory of tradition and the handmade to the political dimensions of the body and artistic practice, two choreographers of a new generation present two distinct approaches to contemporary dance
More Information
Together with santur player Kypriana Constantinidou and five performers, Myrianthi Panagiotou explores the act of preserving within ourselves objects, stories, bodies and human bonds, revealing the human need, wherever we go, to carry places, relationships and memories with us – everything we have loved, everything we have lost, everything we continue to preserve. Drawing on images of water, textiles, ropes, manual labour and everyday acts of care, the work creates a deeply physical stage language rooted in the landscapes and cultural memory of Cyprus. The santouri becomes an equal performer on stage, as sounds born from wood, strings, breath and repetition create a sonic landscape that evokes labour, ritual and the rhythm of the sea.
Myrianthi Panagiotou is a dancer, choreographer and teacher of contemporary and classical dance. A former member of the Dance Cyprus Junior Company, she studied at the Iwanson School of Contemporary Dance in Munich and at the Greek National School of Dance KSOT in Athens. As a performer she has collaborated with F. Nikolaou, A. Kanellopoulou, B. Azizaj, A. Michaelidou, B. Földi, A. Sághy, D. Chatzizacharia, M. Ioannidou, E. Pieroudi, as well as aRttitude and Budapest Dance Theatre. As a choreographer she created Na sou pw!, For The Ones I Love and Traverse, and co-created Accompanied.
