I Fall like a Waterfall Vertically
I Fall like a Waterfall Vertically
One of the most innovative and distinctive voices of Cyprus’s contemporary performing arts scene presents in Nicosia, for the first time, her story of someone who decided to dive into a crack.
More Information
With a long-standing practice in performance and interdisciplinary arts, Elena Agathokleous presents at the Studio, the new venue of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, a singular performative work written and performed in the Greek Cypriot dialect.
The piece unfolds as a dark parable about a person who chooses to leave behind familiar reality and plunge into a crack. But is it possible to return from a place where the laws of gravity no longer apply, certainties dissolve, and the boundaries of consciousness cease to exist?
The performance emerged from a period of personal and artistic inquiry that followed the pandemic, when questions of vulnerability, life’s transience, and the possibility of physical connection came to occupy the centre of the creative process. What began as a personal journey through memories, losses and uncharted inner landscapes gradually transformed into a collective experience.
With live music performed on stage by Marianna Michael, and drawing on the power of spoken language, sound composition and performative presence, Agathokleous creates an atmosphere of ritual and dream. Yet her “inverted litany” does not lead towards a sacred destination, but into the depths of an inner descent – nothing less than a poetic confrontation with loss, memory, the longing to return, and the need to rediscover a shared place of encounter.
Down there, the city roams free.
