What happens when ordinary people take on giants?

The story of David and Goliath, one of the best-known narratives of the Old Testament, has long symbolised the triumph of the underdog over the seemingly invincible. Drawing inspiration both from the biblical tale and Malcolm Gladwell’s influential book David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits and the Art of Battling Giants, internationally acclaimed choreographer Ian Garside reimagines in a captivating way this iconic confrontation through dance, physical theatre, humour, striking visual imagery and playful absurdity.

On stage, acclaimed Argentine actor Tomás Pozzi and Ian Garside himself meet in an imaginary world that evokes the atmosphere of a Victorian gothic fairy tale while remaining deeply connected to contemporary social realities. At the same time, the influence of artists such as Pina Bausch, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Wes Anderson, Tim Burton and Monty Python leaves a distinctive mark on the production.

Against a backdrop of global conflict and everyday hostility, this tender expression of childlike imagination and creative sensitivity becomes an ode to human humility, as the two performers confront not only one another but also their own certainties, prejudices and identities.

Created for audiences of all ages, David & Goliath combines contemporary dance and theatrical performance in an accessible format designed to engage both regular theatre-goers and new audiences alike.

At a time when challenges often seem insurmountable, this performance reminds us that appearances can be deceptive, and that resilience, humility and imagination often emerge from the most unexpected places.

Let the battle begin!
