For one night only, the Nicosia Municipal Garden is transformed into the garden of a grand city hotel. In the echo of the Ledra Palace, two visitors meet at the bar, beside the swimming pool. A glass of Brandy Sour, mint, lemonade, zivania, coffee, ayran, rose tea and frozen tears become the starting points for stories of people who passed through the hotel and saw their lives change alongside the history of Cyprus.

In Brandy Sour, recipient of the Cyprus State Prize for Novel, the hotel is not approached as a monument burdened by history. Instead, it extends before and beyond historical events, becoming a captivating place of encounter. A space where Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, international figures and visitors from around the world lived, worked, fell in love, said goodbye and waited. The performance moves beyond narration, bringing these small and large human moments vividly to life through the sensory elements that run through them – tastes, scents and sounds. The Municipal Garden becomes a natural extension of the work’s scenic world, prompting us to experience this familiar landmark of everyday life in an entirely different way.
