Andreas Krambias Quintet
Andreas Krambias Quintet
Two ensembles offering distinctive perspectives on the music of the Eastern Mediterranean come together for an evening of tradition and unexpected experimentation
More Information
Andreas Krambias Quintet
The quintet of oud player and bouzouki soloist Andreas Krambias moves creatively between musical traditions and contemporary sound. Through the melodic voice of the oud, the velvety texture of the strings, and the rhythmic interplay of double bass and drums, a distinctive sonic landscape emerges, where Mediterranean lyricism meets experimentation and contemporary orchestration.
Krambias’s compositions draw inspiration from the musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean, the maqam modal system, and the complex rhythms that characterize the region. Rather than seeking to faithfully reproduce these traditions, he uses them as a source of inspiration for new compositional and orchestral ideas.
The natural landscape of Cyprus lies at the heart of this exploration: the pieces “photograph” landscapes, transforming images and emotions into sound. The result is a musical journey beyond geographical borders, revealing the richness of Mediterranean music through a new and deeply personal artistic perspective.
Andreas Krambias studied at the Nicosia Music School, the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, and the World Music programme at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg. He has appeared as a soloist with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and has collaborated with artists in Cyprus, Sweden and internationally.
The quintet consists of:
Oud, Compositions: Andreas Krambias
Violin: Evros Voskarides, Frixos Antoniades
Double bass: Dimitris Pichas
Drums: Nora Mauritzson
*You can enjoy the double bill featuring the Andreas Krambias Quintet & Idaeon Project in its entirety with a single combined ticket, or choose one of the two concerts with an individual ticket.
